What is the Council currently working on? Here is a little overview:
- Conducting strategic planning to develop a statewide plan for combating invasive species.
- Providing input to draft Best Management Practices (BMPs) for Commercial Minnow Importation.
- Providing comments on Asian Carp related control efforts.
- Round 2 of the Wisconsin Invasive Species Identification, Classification, and Control Rule (Chapter NR 40) is in the beginning stages. This means that a species list, mostly containing plants at this point, is being developed by the Wisconsin DNR and literature reviews are in the development stage. Some of the plant species that will be under review include those that are currently used as ornamentals, for forage, and also for erosion control.
- Invasive Species Awareness Month (ISAM) is a constant process. We are always looking for ideas to improve so check out Awareness Month and email us at: isam_wi@yahoo.com to let us know what you think!
